“Butter” just became BTS’ fourth song to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. BTS released the song on May 21, and it is the band’s second English-language single. Not only is “Butter” the septet’s fourth No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, but it is also BTS’ fourth song to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard chart in less than a year.
On June 1, Billboard announced the new rankings for the Billboard Hot 100, and to no surprise, BTS once again shot to the top of the chart with the release of “Butter. In the report, Billboard announced that “Butter” is the 54th song in history to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it is the 1,125th No. 1 since the creation of the Hot 100 chart.
According to Billboard, BTS’ accomplishment is the “quickest accumulation of four initial leaders since Justin Timberlake a decade-and-a-half ago. Among groups, BTS has landed its first four No. 1s the fastest since the Jackson 5 in 1970.”
Billboard reports that “Following its May 21 release, ‘Butter’ drew 32.2 million U.S. streams and sold 242,800 downloads in the week ending May 27, according to MRC Data. It also attracted 18.1 million radio airplay audience impressions in the week ending May 30.”
In addition to debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, BTS’ new song also debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, the Billboard Global 200 chart, and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.
Before “Butter,” BTS reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the songs “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, and “Life Goes On.” Following the announcement that they landed another No. 1 hit, BTS issued a statement via a press release.

Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook also took to Twitter to celebrate with ARMY. On Twitter, the septet shared a picture of the Hot 100 chart and selfies of the members. V also posted a photo with the “Butter” logo from BTS’ press conference for “Butter.”
Before Billboard announced that “Butter” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, BTS reached new heights with the song in its first 24 hours. According to a press release, the song’s music video earned 3.9 million concurrent viewers at its premiere on YouTube. This makes the “Butter” music video the biggest music video premiere on the video platform.
In its first 24 hours, the “Butter” music video achieved 108.2 million views, setting a record for the most-viewed YouTube video within its first 24 hours. With this, BTS broke their own record, as they were the previous record holders with the music video for their 2020 single “Dynamite.” The music video for “Dynamite” reached 101.1 million views in its first 24 hours.
According to a press release, “Butter” earned the most first-day streams of any song in Spotify history with 20.9 million unfiltered global streams in its first day. Based on these numbers and the new No. 1 debut, “Butter” is shaping up to be even more successful than BTS’ previous hit “Dynamite.”
